What is Wine Week?

wine-week-vineyard-growersmap-wine-growers-4New Jersey Wine Week is a statewide celebration of Garden State wine making and grape growing. The budding New Jersey wine industry represents the fastest growing segment of New Jersey agriculture, and now boasts over fifty licensed wineries from Sussex County to Cape May. Celebrating New Jersey Wine means celebrating local- local business and local farming, and the vast array of benefits that these represent.

We hope you will raise a glass with us during a New Jersey Wine Week event at the many wineries, restaurants, liquor stores, bars, and other participating businesses. Below are a listing of New Jersey Wine Week events and promotions categorized regionally- north, central, and south, across the state.

Join us online as well as NJ takes over one of Twitter’s largest wine groups #winestudio every Tuesday night from 9-10 pm. Leading wine bloggers from throughout the country will chat with NJ winemakers.

  • Nov. 7 – GSWGA Executive Director Tom Cosentino and Charlie Tomasello, Tomasello Winery
  • Nov. 14 – The Outer Coastal Plain AVA with Sean Cominos of William Heritage Vineyards and Larry Sharrott, Sharrott Winery
  • Nov. 21 – Todd Wuerker of Hawk Haven Vineyard will talk Cape May wine
  • Nov. 28 – Unionville Vineyard will discuss the growing conditions in Hunterdon County

North Events

More than Just Wine on the Vintage North Jersey Wine Trail – November 11—12:00 pm – November 12—5:00 pm

Visitors to New Jersey’s northwest counties are often impressed with how much it looks like Napa in California, the Piedmont in Italy or the Rhone in France. Rolling hills, rivers and streams make this an ideal area for growing some of the state’s best grapes.

During the weekend of Saturday-Sunday, November 11-12, whether you start in the north most winery of Sussex County or the south most winery in Mercer, you can immerse yourself in wine country as you in join in Vintage North Jersey’s “More than Just Wine” weekend.

Begin the weekend in Sussex County. Enjoy a Taste of Italy at Cava Winery in Hamburg. A  tasting of pasta along with a wine tasting.  They will have the Bottle Cap Rockets performing on November 11th from 4-8pm

Move on to Warren County’s Brook Hollow Winery where you can enjoy their signature dry table wines. They will be serving their Triple Chocolate Chambourcin cake and  White Riesling cake and providing the recipe for each.

Four Sisters Winery also in Warren County will offer dessert samples with wine. Pick up some of their special fruit wines for holiday entertaining  Robin’s Raspberry, Sadie’s Apple and Spicy Sisters are all holiday hits.

Villa Milagro Vineyards, also Warren County, will offer tastings by Renata, owner of Kraskus Polish Deli in Phillipsburg. back by popular demand with her pillow-light & fluffy pierogis and polish sausages for you to sample and enjoy.  She will offer small plates to enjoy on premises as well as items for you to purchase for home. They will also pour their holiday wines, Gracias, Feliz Navidad and Mi Carino, for you to enjoy as you peruse a gallery display, “A Year in the Life of a Vineyard” by local artist Ed Norman. Bring a food donation for NORWESCAP and receive a gift for yourself.

In Hunterdon County, Antimo’s of Hopewell will be doing a fun pairing with Unionville Vineyards  single vineyard pinot releases over the weekend. Learn how Unionville makes its award winning wines on a 2:30 tour daily.

You can also start in the south and move north. South most of Vintage North Jersey wineries in Mercer County are Terhune Orchards and Winery and Hopewell Valley Vineyards.

Terhune Orchards Vineyard & Winery will offer a cup of their hot mulled wine as well as samples of wines made from fruits from their vineyard and orchard. They will also be pairing wines with locally produced specialty foods that are included in their gift baskets and boxes along with their wines. While there, visit their own farm store to sample pies. Over 20 pies and crisps are available for the holiday.

Slightly north in Mercer County is Hopewell Valley Vineyards. With their own kitchen and chefs, Hopewell will offer food samples paired with their finely crafted wines. Italian born owner, Sergio Neri, says, “Join Vintage North Jersey members for this weekend of Fun, Food & Vino!”

Renata from our local Kraskus Polish Deli makes pierogis that are soft and fluffy like tiny delicious pillows.  Come enjoy them with holiday wines and take some home along with her kielbasa and other traditional favorites.  And enjoy a photo gallery display, “a year in the life of a vineyard” by local artist Ed Norman.  $10 per person wine tasting, pierogi & sausage tastings plus a gift wine glass to keep.

The Chocolate Expo – New Jersey Exposition Center, 97 Sunfield Ave, Edison, NJ 08837

Nov. 12, 2017 • 10 am – 7 pm – The Chocolate Expo features tastings & sales of chocolates, baked goods, specialty foods, wines, cheese and much more, along with entertainment and demonstration. $15/Adult & $10/Child (5-11). NJ Agriculture Secretary to Visit Plagido’s Winery

Nov. 17 at Noon – Douglas Fisher, New Jersey’s Secretary of Agriculture will visit Plagido’s Winery in Hammonton, NJ to officially commemorate New Jersey Wine Week.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at Stockton University will be holding its annual Distinguished Guest Panel on Monday, November 20th at 6 p.m. with the topic of conversation being Beverage Tourism. We are thrilled to welcome industry representatives from the Garden State Wine Growers Association, New Jersey Brewers Association, Cape May County Chamber and Visit South Jersey Destination Management sectors.

Winery Tours – Tours will be held on Saturdays ONLY during the month of November with the exception of a Friday tour on Nov. 10th & 24th. Reservations are required as our tours do sell out. Tours cost $25.00 per person, are approximately an hour and a half in length and include:

-A tour of the production barns and vineyard

-A lesson in “vines to wines”  (how we make our wine)

-A wine tasting, with a taste right out of an oak barrel

-A behind the scenes look at our wine-making operation

A Fun and Tasty 2 Hour Event!  Hosted by our Wine Maker in the Barrel Room.  Limited to 24 Guests per session.  Four New Jersey Wines will be paired with four locally made Holiday Pies. Guests will receive a flight of wine which will include 4  1.5 ounce samples of either Dry or Semi Sweet Wines.  Four specially selected pies will accompany the wine. The pies will be 2 Savory and 2 Fruit.  Afterwards guests can relax in the Barrel Room or enjoy live music in the Tasting Room.  There will be no tickets at the door.

Harvest Ball – Saturday, November 18th 2017 from 5pm to 8pm

Join us as we welcome Master Chef Brian Parker from the Southern Mansion of Cape May for another spectacular winemaker’s dinner. Willow Creek’s winemaker will be teaming up with Chef Parker once again to create an unbelievable three-course wine-paired dinner in celebration of another fruitful harvest at our farm.

This is a black tie (optional) event, so be sure come wearing whatever makes you look (and feel!) your best. The evening will also feature live entertainment from an incredible jazz ensemble, The Erik Marley Trio.
