A Visit to Monmouth & Ocean County Wine Country

The uppermost region of the Outer Coastal Plain American Viticultural Area (AVA) includes wineries located in an historic farming region of the state.  Monmouth County features two wineries just minutes from the Jersey Shore, 4JG’s Vineyard & Winery in Colts Neck and Fox Hollow Vineyards in Holmdel, as well as  Cream Ridge Winery in the more rural Cream Ridge, NJ.   Nearby in Ocean County is Laurita Winery located in New Egypt.  You are also not far from Mercer County wineries: Working Dog Winery in East Windsor, Hopewell Valley Vineyards in Pennington and Terhune Orchards in Princeton.

AVAs are the officially-designated United States wine grape growing regions. They are based on the French AOC system and designated by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. When an AVA designation appears on a wine label at least 85% of that wine must come from within an AVA boundary.

So plan a visit to our region’s wineries the next time you are down the Shore region:
