About the Band

Atlantic Brass Band is one of North America’s premiere, all volunteer, brass bands based out of the greater Philadelphia / Southern New Jersey area; and is currently the artist in Residence at Rowan University (Glassboro, NJ). Composed of educators, college students, professional musicians, and non-music professionals; the band is committed to bringing the art and artistry of “brass banding” to the surrounding community through entertainment, educational collaborations, and fundraising partnerships.

Originally formed as the Wheaton Brass Band by Yorkshire-born Herb Roselle in 1984, Atlantic is one of the oldest bands of its kind in North America. The band hosts a yearly season of concerts, contest, and festival performances of all types and has been a frequent performer at such events as the Gettysburg Brass Band Festival, International Trumpet Guild Conference, Great American Brass Band Festival, National Trumpet Competition, Music Educator’s National Conference Eastern Division conference, and the NJ Music Educators conference. The band has also performed international with tours of Italy and the U.K. performances in Canada, and participation in the 2013 World Brass Band Championships (Netherlands), the 2018 Brass In Concert contest (England), and the 2018 Scottish Open contest (Scottland).

Recent initiatives educational initiatives by the band have resulted in the inception of the Mid-Atlantic Brass Band Festival, held annually in February since 2012, as well as the formation of the Rowan/Atlantic Youth Brass Band; in collaboration with Rowan University and its community music school. The band undertakes recording projects every several seasons (latest being Metropolis in 2017) and is currently exploring new and exciting ways to enhance our media presence for the 21st century.
