We are pleased to welcome our neighbor, Rodrigo Duarte, who will be bringing some of his very rare, Portuguese pigs to live on our pasture lands and on our “hood lands” (wooded grazing areas near the open pastures). The pigs enjoy eating nuts and acorns which adds to the marvelous flavors of this highly regarded meat. Rodrigo, a Portuguese immigrant farmer who has imported Iberian Hogs, is now producing Portuguese Charcuterie. Manuel Rodrigo (call him “Manny“) will also be providing a Pig Roast on our farm on Saturday, October 22 (with a rain-date on Sunday, October 23). Read more about Manny in Edible New Jersey! Also, this is the family shop in Newark, “Caseiro e Bom” with lots of info on the meats and on the owner, Rodrigo Duarte.
Also, dessert will be offered from The Farmer’s Daughter.
Our neighbor’s rare, grey-colored Portuguese pigs are happily grazing in our woodlands. Guests are welcome to hike uphill to “meet them”!
