This unique area of New Jersey creates a “Micro Mini Climate” that extends the grape growing season allowing a flavorful bouquet for our five variety wine tasting experience, which includes Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, with new additions coming soon.
The vineyard at Jessie Creek is harvested and processed by hand. This results in a flavor and quality that can only be captured in a boutique facility. We are located in beautiful Salem County. John and Debra Basile purchased their farm in 2009 with the intention of starting their winery. John is a 4th generation home wine maker who has been sharing his wine with friends and family for over 20 years. He is a scientist by trade and has a great passion for winemaking. Debra’s degree is in Agricultural Economics and Environmental Science.
They are a great team, married for 20 years with five children. John and Debra have always dreamed of living off the land to enjoy the challenge of the vineyard. We enjoy what we do and love talking about our vines and wines.
Our wines are grown sustainably and vinified classically from select European vines we began planting in 2005. We focus on Austrian and Northern Italian varieties in our vineyard, which is dry-farmed and lies on the southwest-facing slope of Mount Salem, in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, near the village of Pittstown. At 700 feet above sea level our soil is deep, well-drained and studded with deposits of glacial gravel, which all contribute to our wines’ distinctive terroir. We are best known for our estate-grown Austrian reds – Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St. Laurent – and our flagship Austrian white, Grüner Veltliner; we also source grapes from a select group of New Jersey growers. We produce wines in very limited quantities, and offer them first to subscribers who reserve them by the case before they are bottled. Upon release, the wines are available by the bottle or case.
Hours: Open Daily Year Round, 10am-5pm. Extended Summer Hours 10am-7pm

For owner Mandi Cassidy, offering customers delicious wines and a memorable winery experience is a point of pride. At Salem Oak, you will be treated like part of the family. Our vineyard has been a family-run farm for 10 years. Our vines were planted in 2003 and the grapes used to create family wines. In the spirit of celebrating South Jersey agriculture and Mandi’s dream to join the ranks of the wonderful wineries in New Jersey, she opened for business in late 2013.
Our tasting room offers a beautiful wine bar and ample table-seating for tastings, snacks, and listening to live music. Purchase a bottle of your favorite wine and meander out to our porch to watch the sun set over our vineyard in a comfy rocking chair. Our wines have been delicately crafted by winemaker Chris McTyre. Approaching 100 years of agriculture production, Summit City Farms began in 1922 by Italian immigrants Gaetano and Pasqueta DeEugenio. Starting with 7.5 acres at the winery location, many fruits and vegetables were grown. In the 1950s, Gaetano’s sons, Anthony, Joseph, and Lewis, expanded the farm to 150 acres. Lewis Jr. further expanded in the 1990s to 500 acres of predominantly fruit production. Equestrian facilities were added and Anthony Yula, son in law joined the farm. A winery was planned and opened in May 2014. Wines under the Summit City label include: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Traminette, Concord, Niagara, Cabernet Sauvgnon, Syrah and Sangiovese. Fruit wines include: apple, peach, nectarine, and mango, among others.
