Spotlight On: Working Dog Winery

Working Dog Winery in Hightstown is excited to be coming up on its first anniversary of new ownership this winter, as well as making it through its first harvest with a female-led production team! It’s been a big year of learning, growth, and fresh energy. The new owners have invited families back to the lawn areas and have been bringing subtle but exciting changes to the winery—like educational tastings and workshops, craft and vendor markets, private event opportunities, and some killer new merchandise. It’s an exciting time, and they are excited to share it all with our guests and fellow wine lovers.

This fall is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons at Working Dog. It’s rolling out a mix of events for all interests, including Grape and Wine Tastings in the Vineyard, Open Mic Nights, Trivia Nights, and a variety of hands-on creative experiences like painting, ceramics, and clay workshops.

The highlight of the season will be the Fall Festival Weekend. It all kicks off on Friday, October 10th, with a Murder Mystery Night, followed by a full Weekend Fall Festival on October 11th and 12th. Guests can enjoy food trucks, a mega vendor and craft fair, face painting, pumpkin painting, a harvest brunch featuring the winery’s new mimosas, and live music all weekend long.

They’ll also be able to enjoy Working Dog’s many wines, including the latest releases:

  • 2023 Retriever: The winery’s favorite reserve is only bottled during our best vintages and will be ready to release this holiday season!  A 50/50 Estate-Grown blend of Merlot & Cabernet Franc, this medium ruby colored wine shows notes of blackberry, cherry, and sweet tobacco on the nose.  The palate is bright and juicy with plum and raspberry flavors.  A true representation of the cool vintage.
  • 2024 Cayuga White: A zesty white wine with fresh melon and pear on the nose, leading into bursts of candied citrus and bold white florals on the finish.

And while it won’t be released by the festival weekend, keep an eye out for a new wine coming in winter from Working Dog, the 2025 Foch Nouveau: Crafted from the Maréchal Foch grape, a cold-hardy hybrid. Inspired by the French Beaujolais Nouveau, this youthful red is light, fruity, and fresh, with soft tannins and bright notes of red cherry and blackberry.
