Spotlight On: Tomasello Winery

Hammonton’s Tomasello Winery won big at the 2025 American Wine Society Competition, walking away with three very impressive medals. At its core, the American Wine Society exists to celebrate the accomplishments of U.S. winemakers. Its annual competition awards wines, which are voluntarily entered by wineries across the nation, medals—gold, silver, or bronze—and just like in the Olympics, every winery hopes its wines take home a gold.

This year, Tomasello Winery went above that. This year, the fourth-generation family winery earned two Double Golds and one Gold! What’s a double gold, you may wonder? When the group of judges assigned to blind taste a wine unanimously gives it a gold medal-winning score, the wine becomes a double gold medal winner.

Not only did Tomasello take home two double golds this year, it took home two Best of Class awards. Best of Class is awarded to the wine that has the top score among all the wines judged in its class.

Let’s give a round of applause to Tomasello Winery for these awards:

  • Tomasello’s 2022 Outer Coastal Plain Blaufränkisch: Double Gold
  • Tomasello’s Cranberry Wine: Gold and Best of Class Fruit Wine
  • Tomasello’s 2023 Epilogue (Riesling Ice Wine) – Double Gold and Best of Class Dessert Wine

Congratulations to the team at Tomasello Winery and Cheers to New Jersey Wine!

If you’re looking for the winery with the deepest roots in the Garden State, Tomasello Winery wins. Founded in 1933, Tomasello is the state’s oldest continuously owned family winery. With 68 acres of grapes under vine and a broad portfolio of wines spanning multiple categories—from methode Champenoise sparklers to wine slushies—there’s something for everyone.

Winemaker Charlie Tomasello knows that summer is one of the most popular times at Tomasello, and to meet the market’s unending thirst for fun in the vines, Tomasello is bringing the tasting room there.

“We’ve unveiled a Wines in the Vines trailer this summer in Hammonton, with wines, tapas, charcuterie and other bites so people can get the wine experience in the vineyard,” Tomasello explains, adding that there is a range of seating and shade options around the trailer. “We are open noon to five most weekend days, but you should call ahead to ensure there isn’t a major private event at the winery that day.”

Tomasello is also excited about multiple new releases, including a line of Incredible Creams (small-batch wine-based creams like Pistachio and Banana), a new Sangiovese, and high-ABV Boomberry sweet wines.

Tomasello’s Wine in the Vines trailer is at the winer itself in Hammonton, but if you’re closer to the Tomasello Outlets at Smithville, Village Greene, Lambertville, Wemrock Orchards in Freehold, Alstede Farms in Chester, at Abmas Farm in Wyckoff or Tomasello wines at Elena Wu in Voorhees, there’s plenty to taste and do there.
