The current issue of New Jersey Monthly encourages readers to toast with New Jersey-made sparkling wine, and to that we say, “Cheers!”
Over the past decade, our wineries have really stepped up their bubbles game, increasingly adding both inexpensive, cheerful bottles as well as splurge-worthy bottles that rival some of the finest bubblies coming from Champagne.
It only makes sense. As we noted in a blog post a while back, “There was a time when New Jersey was the sparkling wine capital of the United States.” Before Prohibition, one of Egg Harbor City’s wineries was the largest producer of ‘Champagne’ in the United States, and its sparkling wines won international awards.
Here are just a few of the New Jersey sparkling wine options to drink with your New Year’s Eve feasts and sip while ringing in the New Year!
- Beneduce Vineyards Chambrusco: A classic frizzante (slightly fizzy) dry red
- Saddlehill Cellars Sparkling White: A Champagne-style white wine that goes with a variety of foods, as most classic sparkling wines made in this style do.
- Bellview Winery Pet-Nat Rosé: A sparkling dry rosé made from Petit Verdot that goes well with oysters and whipped ricotta and honey.
- Hawk Haven FIZZ Nouveaux: A fruity, lower alcohol (10.2%) bubbly made from Pinot Noir
Sharrott Winery Sparkling Cider: A lower alcohol (7.9%) bubbly made from apples that pairs really well with roast chicken.
