BARREL TASTING WINE TRAIL: AN OPPORTUNITY TO TASTE THE FUTURE
July 16 & 17, 2011 (Noon to 5:00 p.m.)
At Participating Wineries Across
the State
The Garden State Wine Growers Association’s Barrel Tasting Wine Trail is a once-a-year treat for wine fans to sample new vintages straight from the barrel.
The process of creating wine involves more than just the type of grape, the soil and the weather. All of these are key factors in producing good wine, but its character is also determined during the aging process, while stored in barrels.

On this special weekend, wineries all over New Jersey will be opening their barrel rooms so that patrons can get a sense of what future wines will taste like. Some wineries will even allow visitors to compare what's in the barrel with bottle samples of the same wines from different vintages.
Visitors will get the opportunity to see how the winemakers test their wines as they age and what they must do to bring a wine to maturity.
Here are just some of the participating wineries and what they will be offering on their barrel tasting tour:
Dry Whites: 2006 Green Dragon Tavern Chardonnay, 2008 Chardonnay, Sur Lie, 2008 Viognier, 2008 Rkatsiteli and a 2009 Sauvignon Blanc
Dry Reds: 2008 Cabernet Franc, 2008 Syrah, 2008 Merlot, 2008 Europa III (55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc)
Semi-Dry/Dessert: Villard Blanc, Metis, Callisto Rouge, Callisto Blanc and 2008 Late Harvest Villard
